We are delighted to share that Abhya Life recently participated in a transformative session with the transgender community as part of Project SAHAS, a pioneering initiative supported by Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives (APPI) and implemented by the India HIV/AIDS Alliance. This project is dedicated to enhancing the lives of transgender individuals, fostering equality, and upholding the dignity of all human life.
Under the leadership of Anubhuti Mittal Bhattacharya and with the support of Sumit Singh, Abhya Life had the privilege to engage with a vibrant and diverse group, exploring alternative livelihood options beyond sex trading. The session focused on innovative and sustainable business opportunities that can provide stable and respectable sources of income.
We showcased various environmentally friendly products and solutions, including jute and cotton packaging, labelling solutions with affordable digital printing, and different "trash to value" handicrafts made by Ruby Self-Help Group (SHG). Organic perfumes and jute products crafted by talented artisans such as Priyanka Sharma, Parveen Akhter, Manjary Upadhyay, and Shoaib Hussain were also displayed. Hygiene products developed by Sandeep Vyas and Rachna Vyas were also featured.
Participants enjoyed carrot jaggery treats prepared by SHGs from Meerut, supported by the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission (UPSRLM) and the Meerut Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET). The interaction aimed to inspire the transgender community to diversify their livelihoods by incorporating innovative products and businesses into their portfolios. The session encouraged them to leverage successful ventures by integrating them into their value chains, opening new avenues for economic empowerment and self-sufficiency.
This session under Project SAHAS marks a significant step towards creating inclusive and sustainable livelihood opportunities for the transgender community. Abhya Life remains committed to supporting initiatives that drive positive change and promote the dignity and equality of all individuals.
